“In September four of our scouts from 17th Lewisham North completed the last part of their chief scout award, the expedition, although this had been planned a while ago the opportunity arose in late Summer to walk from Downe to Hammerwood and camp overnight.
The four scouts below (all now Explorers) all completed the hike and Pat presented them with their certificates whilst on camp.
Tomas, Ben, Anton & Joshua set off on a sunny September morning, using the skills they have learned through scouting to arrive late afternoon at Hammerwood, navigating around closed footpaths, being corralled by a horse, and learning that signposts don’t always point the right way.
Having now completed the award they are now mentoring the next four scouts in achieving theirs, with Ben & Tomas now undertaking young leaders training, volunteering at both scout and cub meetings.
We are extremely proud of their achievement especially in current circumstances and we hope that this will be the start of a rolling program of the young people encouraging and supporting the next group of scouts to achieve the chief scout award.”
