Adult Learning

What is a Wood Badge?

In 1919, Baden-Powell introduced a standardised system for leader training at Gilwell Park. Whilst the contents and availability has changed over time, the concept is the same. Each leader must complete all of the training for their role, what modules you complete will depend on the type of volunteering you are doing.

By following the South London Scouts Adult Training programme you will be supported in your training and your advisors will guide you through the process in the most efficient way. Alternatively you can work through the training booklet, attending any training session across the country and then validating the module as you go along. Once you have completed the booklet, contact the South London Scouts team and they will review your training before signing you off.

South London Scout County Training Sessions

Adult training is designed to ensure that everyone that is volunteering with us has the skills they need to carry out their role effectively. It is also designed to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, sound and exciting scouting to our members across South London Scout County.

Please note: You must complete Getting Started Training (modules 1, 2, GDPR and either 3 or 4), before attending any of the residential courses.

We aim to provide a wide range of training and support throughout the year. All our courses and experiences have limited places available and are offered on a first come first served basis. Places can be booked on the South London Scout website.

All residential courses are held at the South London Scout Centre, Grange Lane, Dulwich, SE21 7LH, unless otherwise stated. Refreshments and snacks are provided, day courses include lunch, weekend course includes all meals.

We aim to make training accessible to everyone that volunteers with scouting, regardless of geography, education, personal circumstances, or special needs. Our Training is also designed to provide support and unit people to enable them to interact and share their own experiences with others.

Other Training Opportunities

Did you know you can also attend other training courses in other County’s?

If you keep missing the county’s training dates due to work or location, join many other leaders who visit other local counties and attend their training as long as you book via their booking system.
