Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre

Located in the green belt in South London with easy access from the M25. Less than an hour from central London by public transport so an excellent base for visiting the Capital’s sites.

Frylands Wood focuses on the outdoor elements of the Scout Programme, managed in a way which encourages and enables as many young people as possible to enjoy and experience the benefits of outdoor Scouting. This includes non-Scouting groups such as schools, churches, and other youth groups. We also offer children’s birthday parties or corporate away-days.

The site provides a number of facilities: 60 acres of woodland providing a safe environment for outdoor activities or traditional camping with the option to cook on ground fires; a number of open activity fields; 2 accommodation buildings to provide an indoor base for outdoor activity; adventurous activity provided by trained volunteer staff; a Warden and volunteer crew to support users.

All adults over the age of 18 staying overnight must be DBS cleared.

Hammerwood Scout Campsite

Hammerwood Scout Campsite offers a dynamic site suitable for a host of activities. Our campsite is located at the end of a track, just off of the A264 near East Grinstead. There are a number of camping areas on site, all of these have access to running water except for the “Wet Wood” area, which is used mainly for survival camps.

The campsite has 10 managed camping grounds, each with their own qualities. Some are open and have plenty of space, while others are more sheltered. Much of the site is quite wild, and camping can be arranged in alternative areas for more ‘wild’ or ‘survival’ style camps.

In addition to two main campfire circles, campfires are permitted on individual sites. There is plenty of wood on the ground, as well as areas with a lot of thin, dead standing trees. Care should be taken in these areas but it can be good sawing practise for scouts. We sometimes have piles of wood available to use.

All adults over the age of 18 staying overnight must be DBS cleared.
